Tanners Frogs

OK I am having an "I don't know what to write" moment. So I looked through my "journal" and found this gem of a story. I wrote it 9/1/2005 when Tanner was 2.5 -ish years old. And Tammi.... theres an unedtited "cute" comment... just for you!

I was at target last night with Tanner and Cassidy. I had a bit of extra money and thought that we should buy a helmet to protect Cassidy's head (since she will probably need it later in order to finance my living expenses. You know the days when I  will need things like three diaper changes a day and someone to push me on my wheelchair walks).

So there I am at Target, when Tanner decides that he needs a bag of  plastic frogs that stick to the bottom of the bath tub. To help with people-slippage (Like these things do anything but create a perfectly moist habitat for bacterial and algae growth). I did not want to buy the frogs and honestly, did not have the patience for the predictable tantrum that would ensue if I took them away from him. So I did what any great parent would do. I tried to bribe him. With every frog like item in the store. He would not budge on the frogs.

I gave up and started to hope that the situation would work itself out. A few moments later the frogs were gone and I was releived. Where the frogs went I did not question. I was just happy that they were gone without a tantrum. I purchased our stuff, went home, and put the kids to bed. Then went through the bags from the store and put everything away. I was so happy with my purchases (It has been a long time since I could buy something even semi fun --like a bike helmet?) Anyways, I took out the helmet and attached it to Cassidy's book bag so she wouldn't forget it. I then pulled out the lunch box that I had also purchased for Cassidy. It is blue with a few white flowers on the top. So cute! I open it up and looked into all of the pockets like you do when you get something new. When I found those damn frogs.

In conclusion: I am a thief (or Tanner is), unless I return to  the store and give the darn *edited* people-slippag-stopping frogs back to some confused cashier that thinks I am crazy for returning an accidentally stolen item of 6 dollars!

Update: Tanner has not stolen an item since and the people-slippage-stopping frogs were returned to the store and yes the cashier thought I was crazy.

  1. lol thats a great story. Its probably fun for you to go back and read about when Tanner was that little. If you can believe it, Brooklyn is the same age he was. I am glad that you wrote that down. I know that some day I will be glad I wrote down all the funny things my kids did when they were toddlers.
I love that you wrote "gem of a story" that made me laugh because that is so something I would say.

  3. That's hilarious! I'm curious, though, what the confrontation with Tanner looked like when you told them you were returning them. :)

  4. Tami- You are as much of a mystery to me as I am to you. I never would have thought that "gem of a story" would set you off.... and "Yes!" it is fun to go back and read what I wrote. to remember what the kids, Nate, and I have done.

Casi- You have an amazing memory!

Erin- There was no confrontation. He forgot all about it. See! Ignoring your kids is great parental tool!
